The drive to Esperance - 13th July

We set out from Fraser range Station aiming to reach Esperance on the south Western Australia coast. We went through Nortseman and stopped to see the corrugated iron camels on the main street roundabout and drop into the towns local hardware to pick up some nuts and bolts and some gaffer tape to reattach bits and pieces falling loose from the car and the trailer. The Nullarbor Plain was behind us and with it most of the rain, as the day started rainless and stayed that way for most of the trip. Esperance was the first town we had since leaving Port Augusta and we were able to do a decent grocery shop and drop into Bunnings to pick up a few more substantial bits and pieces to repair a cracked water tank on the trailer. We then drove out of town in dimming light towards our intended camping spot somewhere in Cape Le Grande National Park about 60km out of town. We had plans to get to a camping area called Lucky Bay but were a litlle nervous about site availability. The outcome of no sites on arrival would mean a turn around and drive 60km back into town half of which was on unsealed road. Not a great outcome in the late afternoon's dimming light. What a surprise when we arrived !!! Campsite was nearly empty and Lucky Bay was one of the most spectacular ocean bays we had ever seen. Quickly the gas cylinder was off the trailer and the bbq was attached, In fading light Boyd set up the tent (with Immy's help) as Lisa cooked snags and the Boys careered down the hard dirt hill on their scooters. We went to bed excited about seeing this paradise in daylight.
Our campsite at Lucky Bay - eagerly awaiting daylight
